2017 Ministry Leaders’ Capitol Summit

summit2017

This event, which pulls together ministry leaders from across the state of South Dakota, provides networking, unity, fellowship, vital information about the government of our state, and an awesome touch point between ministry leaders and legislators. The Summit springs from the core of who we are as an organization, from our “DNA” if you please, and it is certainly one of the most important events of our calendar year. So, if you lead a ministry, mark your calendar for February 7, and make plans now to join us in Pierre on that day.

As in the past, we are providing bus transportation to Pierre for those who would like to go green. You can fellowship, read, or sleep and leave the driving to us. As last year, we are providing two buses. Each bus will leave from their respective locations promptly at 5:15 AM on the 7th (did we mention you can sleep on the bus?).

Family Research Council’s Pastor JC Church will be our keynote speaker.

West River Bus

There will be a 56-passenger ‘Grey Hound Bus’ traveling to Pierre from Rapid City at no cost to the passengers. The bus will leave from the Flying J Truck Stop’s East Parking Lot (I-90 & Elk Vale Road) @ 5:15 a.m. (MST) and will return by 5:00 p.m.

East River Bus

There will be a 55-passenger ‘Grey Hound Bus’ traveling to Pierre from Sioux Falls at ‘no cost’ to the passengers. The bus will leave from the Northwest Walmart parking lot, the southeast corner of the lot, (5200 W 60th Street N, Sioux Falls) @ 5:15 a.m. (CST) and will return by 6:00 p.m.

SD Elected Officials’ Lunch With an Olympian

2016electedleaderslunchWhat a perfect event!  Our S.D. Elected Officials’ Lunch was hosted by Pastor Greg Blanc and his Calvary Chapel team prepared a perfect menu and a perfect venue for the fifty attendees of this luncheon.

Our Executive Director, Dale Bartscher did a great job touching a few legislative bases before turning the microphone over to our keynote speaker, the Honorable Jim Ryun.  Ryun was the first high school athlete to run a mile in under four minutes. He went on to take the silver medal in the 1968 Summer Olympics in the 1,500 meter run. Jim also represented Kansas’s 2nd congressional district as a member of the United States House of Representatives from 1996-2007.  Jim shared from his heart, the trials, difficulties, and victories of being politically engaged and doing so not from a party perspective but from a values perspective.  The presentation by Mr. Ryun included a special treat as his wife, Ann stepped up to the mic and added her thoughts and point of view.  It was an awesome day for FHA Action and all who were privileged to be there came away encouraged and energized.

Pastor Blanc, to you and your team, we extend a heartfelt “thank you” for all you did to make this event a success!

We will have a bunch of photos up soon on our Facebook page and we have one additional treat.  Normally, Mr. Ryun does not permit video recording of his events, but he granted us permission to record this one.  We have some post-production work to do on the video and we need to get Mr. Ryun’s approval once it is complete, but soon, we hope to be sharing this video with you, so stay tuned!

FHA Action Wraps Up Successful Legislative Preview Tour

previewtourcolFHA Action’s legislative preview tour began January 12 in Rapid City where 140 came out to eat chili and listen to an overview of the issues facing South Dakota’s 91st Legislative Session.  Thanks to all who made chili.  The chili went over well and it was a huge boost to FHA financially!  Also, at the Rapid City event, we were honored to have our Mayor, Steve Allender, in attendance and on the stage for a quick “State of the City” address.

The FHA Action team left Rapid City for an evening dessert reception in Mitchell.  We had 20 in attendance at that event.

From there, our hearty travelers moved on to Sioux Falls for a luncheon there on January 13.  In Sioux Falls, the team found 60 in attendance.

As always, Dale and Norman (our lobbying “A” team) did a great job, enthusiastically lining out some of the many issues we face as the 2016 legislative session gets underway in Pierre.

Thanks to Craig Ericks, Amy Wagner, and our newest staff member, Ed Randazzo who joined the travelers on their journey.  Many of the pictures of this event came from Ed’s camera.  Thanks for that Ed.  We so appreciate our host churches:  RC – Bethel Assembly of God; Mitchell – Mitchell Wesleyan Church; and SF – Church at the Gate.  We so value the partnerships we have with so many amazing congregations across the state.  Also, thanks to our volunteers, our interns, and Amy Willson and LaVonne Fosness who always keep these projects on track.
